The Fairfield Inn & Suites Gallup consistently receives mixed reviews, primarily due to ongoing elevator issues and lack of communication about maintenance. While some guests praise the friendly staff, cleanliness, and breakfast, a significant number report frustration with the out-of-service elevator, particularly when combined with luggage handling difficulties, especially given late arrivals. Recent renovations have improved the overall experience, but underlying operational issues persist.

We traveled here a week ago and the rooms were decent but going up to the 3rd floor with our suitcase was a little tricky! The elevators were not working!! The hot tub was out of service as well. We got up to get breakfast and they only had sausages and I think some biscuits. No eggs nothing else. Pretty disappointed as well.

Quite honestly this hotel was horrible. For one the elevator was out, we weren’t offered any assistance carrying luggage up stairs all the way to the fourth floor. We get to our room.. it was hot and it reeked of cat pee like a punch in the face as soon as you walked in, it was dusty there were no trash bags in the bins or any to put some in there, and the temperature in the room was so hot even after turning on AC for hours. We go to leave and the kind lady at the desk was appalled that we weren’t offered any help to travel up and down the stairs and to top it off the sign on the elevator reads something along the lines of “you’re in luck you’re getting an upgraded elevator soon” when we were told its already been out for months and as if I will ever visit this location again. I’m usually not one to complain but I highly recommend finding another hotel for your stay.

This has to be the best Fairfield I've ever stayed at. The rooms and hotel were spotless and the breakfast was great. The staff was welcoming and seemed to really care about the way my day was going. When I checked in, I found the tv in my room was not working. Before I could hang up the phone the hotel general manager was knocking to fix the issue. I guess the last guest took a wire home with them. She immediately found a replacement wire and apologized for the inconvenience. That was leading by example! Please don't skip this hotel!

We were absolutely exhausted when we finally checked into this hotel at midnight after being stranded on the side of the highway with a flat tire for TEN hours. All we wanted was to get checked in, get settled, and get some sleep. Instead, we arrived to find the elevator completely broken and inoperable. What’s frustrating is that nobody from the hotel bothered to communicate this ahead of time to guests with reservations. A simple phone call or message would have been the right thing to do — especially for travelers arriving late at night after a long, exhausting day. I’m on the road over 10 months out of the year traveling coast to coast, and my luggage isn’t light. I had two suitcases weighing at least 60 pounds each PLUS another large bag. I literally had to carry everything up the stairs myself. My back is killing me, and honestly they’re lucky I didn’t fall carrying all of that up and down those staircases. To top it off? They offered 5,000 Marriott points as if that somehow made this situation acceptable. Come on Marriott. Come on Fairfield. Do better. Communication matters. Guest safety matters. Basic consideration matters. Instead of hoping guests would just be “okay” climbing multiple flights of stairs with heavy luggage late at night, maybe prioritize people over profit for once.

Staff was very friendly. The only issue was the elevator was out of service and we were on the fourth floor. Front desk staff was willing to change our room but we declined since we were given an early checkin accommodation. The fourth floor room was the only one available for early checkin so we went with it. We did get our steps in during our stay lol. The hotel is clean and nice and I would say kid friendly.

The room was nice and clean. The bed hard as a rock pillows were great. The pool and elevator were out of order for the 3 days I was there. The breakfast didn't start until 7:00 a.m. but they had a nice little variety of things for a hotel breakfast. The Lady at the front desk was really nice. But the price is ridiculous. And I know you get what you pay for but gee Louie! I'm going to starve for the next month. So I give this place a 3.

If you're planning on staying at the Fairfield by Marriott Gallup - just don't. This hotel is a shame to the Marriott brand and should not be operating. The elevator was not working when we arrived and we were not informed about it prior to arrival. Reading the reviews here I now can see that it's been broken for quite some time. I was first given a room on the second floor (203) that had a very strong and disgusting smell of mold. Upon complaining about the smell I was moved to another room on the fourth floor (410). The key cards that the clerk gave us for the fourth floor room didn't work so we had to go back to the front desk to have the key card programmed again. The AC was not working when we finally got into the room so the front desk clerk had to reset it to make it work. The room was quite disgusting with stains of mold in the bathroom grout and pet hairs in the carpet. But it was already fairly late at night and we were quite exhausted from all the stair climbing that we decided to just stay. This hotel should be shut down by the health department. Wouldn't be allowed to stay in business in any other location. Extremely bad, I can't trust the Marriott brand anymore for a comfortable stay.

This hotel has been mismanaged so badly that I now have it on my do not stay list. The elevator has now been out over a week. Last week I was put on 2nd floor or given chance to cancel after arriving. Nobody reached out before I arrived to notify me that the elevator was out of service. After arriving I requested 1st floor but said I could handle one flight of stairs if I must as I have a very weak spine. I got put on 2nd floor. Today one week later I call hotel to ask prior to booking a room if there would be any available rooms tonight on the 1st or 2nd floor and was told that it was she was not allowed to answer that until after I make a reservation. Excuse me? The breakfast sucks. The cleanliness of the hotel has gone down considerably in the past year. Why would you make it difficult to stay on your property when you have done nothing to make it a Marriott quality property. It was a simple question that could have easily been answered. Instead of making a reservation I might need to cancel I will just move to a different hotel in Gallup moving forward.

Our overall stay at the hotel was very pleasant. The rooms were clean, and breakfast offered a good variety of options. Several issues significantly impacted our stay: The coffee was only lukewarm both in the evening and during breakfast. Additionally, the elevator and pool were under maintenance for the entire duration of our visit. This made carrying luggage and personal belongings to our room difficult and exhausting, and it eliminated the ability to use the pool altogether. The designated dog area also needs attention. There were exposed wires coming out of the ground, a visible gas line in the same area, and no grassy surface creating an unsafe and poorly maintained space for pets. This poses a serious safety risk and shows a lack of proper maintenance.

Showed up to be told the elevator was out of service, and that they were putting me on the second floor. The staff was absolutely fantastic and offered to take my bags up. I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery, so I took her up on the offer, but felt horrible because she doesn't need to be lugging everyone's luggage up the stairs. She was the only one working, and right after I checked in, an older couple walked in, and the male, who had just had knee surgery, was using a cane and was going to have to walk up multiple flights of stairs. I became even more agitated after reading reviews and seeing that the elevator had been broken for a while and that they never notified those who made reservations in advance, so we could find an alternative hotel. I get to my room, and i am immediately met with the smell of cat pee, and there is black long black hairs on my pillows. I have red hair. I was so tired from my long drive and honestly felt so bad for the one person working, so I just decided to make do. The breakfast was nice, and the staff were great, but honestly, the elevator situation is ridiculous. Especially since it's been down for a while, according to reviews, there was plenty of time to notify those with reservations, and the animal urine smell was just nasty. I will be traveling to Gallup a lot for work moving forward, and I'm not sure if I will stay again.
